A Sketchbook from paradise
David jackson
I bought this superbly bound leather book in Italy. It just lay in the bookshelf unused. I took the plunge and ended up doing 50 drawings on Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. Using pastels I just experimented. What you see is quick and it is warts and all. Some seem to work better than others. We created a small booklet of 36 of the pastel drawings and this is for sale for £20.00.
The pictures cover everything from palm trees to island dancing day. You do see that it rains in the Cook Islands because it is tropical. What more can I say? Against say the machine-made drawings, these do have a verve. They are individual. The mix of tribal and Christian and climate change and seascapes capture an Island before it went into lockdown with the COVID-19.
